Juniors - General Information

IMGP5329Junior activities - providing a safe, friendly and welcoming environment to develop surf awareness skills for kids aged 5 to 13.

Our aim is to provide a safe and fun environment for children aged 5 to 13 years to participate in surf education activities, competition and learn surf skills. Children interested in competition are encouraged to use their natural skills at a series of carnivals held throughout the season. This promotes fellowship, fair play and enjoyment whilst giving the children the opportunity to learn valuable life long surf skills. The emphasis in Junior Lifesaving is on fun and education . Children in each age group gain a Surf Education Award at the conclusion of the season.

General information is available in the attached brochure.

See "Membership/Joining" for details on Membership Applications for Season 2018/2019.

Parents/carers/guardians are advised that as a voluntary organisation the Club requires assistance from you to make our nipper program an enjoyable experience. For this reason each nipper applying for membership with the Club includes an accompanying application for Club membership by a parent/carer/guardian, with the expectation that the parent/carer/guardian will assist in some capacity with the Club’s nipper program. See the Club Policies page for more information.

Transition from Nippers to Cadet Lifesavers

Over recent years, Ballina SLSC has developed a program for U14 nippers with the key aims of retaining membership and participation in club activities and developing leadership and surf life saving skills for our cadets. All U14 members will be encouraged to participate in the program according to their interests and abilities. The program is described in the attached document. U14 members attend an SRC camp at the start of the nippers season to attain lifesaving qualifications.

Juniors - Joining Information

Under 7sNote: Registration is online only - visit the "Membership/Joining" page for details.

Who Can Become a Member

Any child aged 5 (on 30 Sept) to age 13 (on 30 Sept) can register with one parent/carer. Children in the Under 6 & Under 7 Age Group join on a fun and educational basis. Those children in the Under 8 to Under 14 years age groups may also join in friendly competition at club or at inter-club carnivals in the area. Once the children reach the Under 8 Age Group there is a requirement for them to satisfy minimum standards in the water (or demonstrate their "proficiency") prior to participating in activities.

Fees for Season 2017/2018 are detailed in the "Membership/Joining" Section. You can use the Active Kids voucher to pay for nipper membership fees - In the payment details, just include your child's name, date of birth and voucher number. This covers up to $100 of the nipper membership fee.

Club uniforms are purchased separately at registration days or beach activity days and are sold as near to cost price as possible. It does make the children feel "part of the team" if they have Club uniforms.
